A native of Marshfield, WI, Carolyn was blessed to grow up in a loving Christian home. Some of her favorite childhood memories were having ‘tea parties’ with her mom, playing games and reading continuing stories as a family every night. God began drawing her at a young age: when she was just 14 she made a commitment to serve God in full-time ministry, and by age 19 she had already been on 7 mission trips!
She met Peter in highschool and they started dating their junior year. After quite the dating saga, they got married their junior year of college, while Carolyn was studying European history at the University of MN: Minneapolis. Carolyn was really involved in ministry while in college. She spent her summers on mission trips, led Bible studies, and was also involved in leadership with Chi Alpha, a student group on campus.
In June 1996, Peter & Carolyn went back to their hometown to intern at Believers Church. What was supposed to be a summer internship turned into a full time job. Leaving college was one of the biggest decisions she has ever made. Carolyn said, “I loved school. It was a really big deal to leave it and to trust God with the direction He was leading us in.” Peter and Carolyn were full time youth pastors at Believers for 3 years and then became Senior Pastors of the church in 1999.
During this time they hosted & facilitated youth conferences, created a two-year Ministry Training School, built a youth center and helped lead a Halloween outreach every October that reached 14,000 people a year. Carolyn has also spoken at many women’s retreats & conferences. She is passionate about marriage, parenting, small groups & understanding the Myers-Briggs personality profiles. She has also continued her passion for missions by traveling with her husband to Egypt to teach at a pastor’s conference.
Carolyn’s favorite role in life is being a wife to Peter and mom to their three adorable kids: Lijah (8), True (6) and Eden (3). About her family, Carolyn said, “My children are such a blessing & gift from the Lord; they help me slow down in life and force me to laugh, play & enjoy the little things!" She added, "Peter is such a dreamer, I’m more the facilitator and helper; I love serving him and helping his dreams become a reality. I am so thankful for all our family and friends that help us do life!”
